Moms – here’s a craft you will love doing with your kids! It’s a great antidote to a dull, grey day or respite from a hot summer spell. And the best part? Most of the supplies can be found in your house!
This fun ring activity uses carton caps (we get ours from our Tropicana orange juice containers). They measure 25mm / 1” in diameter and fit nicely on little kids’ fingers. (They even fit on mine!)
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Carton caps
- Buttons, beads or other embellishments
- Hot glue gun or Elmer’s glue (Remember: hot glue is to be handled by adults only!)
Scuff up the surface of your carton cap with sandpaper
Plan out your design and apply your first layer of glitter by putting the glue where you want the glitter to go, and dipping it in the glitter. The pictures below show two different ways of creating your design. One has glitter all over the surface, then an embellishment is added on top of it; the other starts with one colour in the middle (green) and a second is added on the outside (red). For the latter, hot glue works better, but if your kids want to do it themselves, you can use white glue; it will just take longer for each colour to set/dry.
Finish off with embellishments like jewels. While the glue is still wet, you can tidy up the ring so that the glitter isn’t falling off the edges.
The completed rings!
My kids love these rings and want to give them as presents this year. There’s no limit to the designs you can make, so get creative and experiment with different craft materials. Enjoy!
