I’m a true believer that pretty accessories can elevate any look. You really don’t need to spend a lot to look like you did. So when my daughter and I recently made our own stud earrings, I thought it would be the perfect DIY project to share with you. It’s a fun, easy and inexpensive way to update your wardrobe.
No matter what your style, you can modify the earring baubles to suit your taste and preference. I’ve used tiny cabochons and fruit beads, but you could use sparkly jewels, resin shapes… the sky is the limit.
Before you start, you’ll want to set up your work area. Put down newspaper or a crafting mat to protect your table.
Step 1: Gather your supplies
You will need:
- Jewelry adhesive – I like E6000, which is professional-grade glue (please note that this product should only be used by adults)
- Baubles – the fruit beads and brightly coloured stick-on jewels are from Michaels
- Earring posts and backs – these can be purchased from Michaels or any jewelry supply store
Step 2: Apply glue to the earring post, then stick your bead or jewel on it
Note: if you’re using stick-on jewels like I did, be sure to remove the adhesive backing before you glue the jewel to the earring post.
Step 3: Let dry overnight
Optional – create an embellished card using layers of fancy paper and brightly coloured card stock. Craft punches and decorative scissors come in handy for projects like this (I used this punch from EK Tools), but are not necessary.
Tip: these make fabulous presents, so start thinking about the holidays!
