Open for just over a year, the Ella Centre has become a must-do on the Toronto mommy circuit. In fact, women travel from all areas of the city to soothe their frazzled nerves here. The centre offers all sorts of pregnancy and parenting workshops, 17 yoga and fitness classes, and even a Mommy Spa with on-site daycare (very nice) and lots of parking. There are lots of programs but the signature is the New Parent Package, a six-week series that includes Q&A sessions with infant experts (where you can ask all sorts of paranoid new-mom questions, like, say, is green poop normal). “Women come in who haven’t slept,” says founder Amy Halpenny. “We make them feel at home during those early deer-in-the-headlight days.” Post-pregnancy fitness classes are specially tailored for new moms, such as Belly No More and Body Blast, with special consideration for women who have had C-sections. National Post books editor Liza Cooperman, currently on maternity leave, recently brought her new baby to Bootee Camp and they both loved it. Also wildly popular are the Thursday music classes by Kim Kendrick from The Royal Conservatory of Music. NOTE: A drop-in program for dads and babies on Saturday morning, Ella for Fellas, has just started.
