Little Lamb

If you’ve ever lived in a small town, you know how difficult it can be to get access to the latest Mom and baby gear.  Sure, you could order products online, but sometimes you just want that tactile experience…. sometimes you need to test-drive that stroller, feel the softness of that blanket, try out that organic baby lotion. Receiving assistance and advice from helpful staff doesn’t hurt either. So, to find a fabulous local baby boutique – especially one savvy enough to carry only the best, most innovative brands on the market – is a real coup.  When this month’s featured boutique, Little Lamb, opened in late 2010, I’m sure shouts of joy could be heard all over Timmins, Ontario.

Owner Vicky Murphy is proud to stock her boutique with eco-friendly baby products that have been hand-picked and thoroughly researched in order to provide parents with the very best merchandise for their children.  She says, “Our goal is to provide products that are not only safe, smart and stylish but products that lead to conscious parenting.” And, with a stellar lineup of brands, it’s no wonder Little Lamb is northeastern Ontario’s go-to baby and toddler destination.

The cool, modern interior of the store is the perfect backdrop for some of the cutest clothing and accessories around – dresses, rompers and onesies by Parade Organics (shown below at right), Dwell Studio sleepers (shown below at left), stylish Guavamitts, Beba Bean shoes and Westcoast Baby kimonos and beanies.

For feeding, they carry the super versatile Keekaroo high chair, Baby Cubes (great for baby purees; I still use them!) and eco-friendly Bambu utensils. One of Little Lamb’s best-sellers in this category is a line of glass bottles with silicone sleeves from Life Factory – they’re shatter-resistant, come in a fun range of colours, and they grow with your child, too – they convert to sippy cups, then drinking bottles, as kids get older. For sleep, you’ll find swaddles from Ergo , sleep sacks from Baby Deedee, muslin blankets from JJ Cole, as well as breathable crib liners (the safe choice, since bumper pads have been deemed unsafe by Health Canada). For bath and body, one of Vicky’s favourites is the all-natural, organic line from Earth Mama Angel Baby – it’s gentle on skin and smells like a creamsicle!  For teething, there’s a wide selection of Chewbeads (necklaces and bracelets), cute organic teething toys from Dress Me Up Organic and silicone teethers from Life Factory.  For nursing, they carry one of my personal “must-haves” – Lily Padz – as well as a wide assortment of nursing pillows and canopies.  And for play, you’ll find a nice selection of wooden Plan Toys (a fave of mine!), Clementine Art natural markers, a variety of Green Toys, Cloud B puppets and Miyim Organic stuffed toys, to name a few.

There are many stylish, innovative and practical items in the store, but you can tell there’s also been a lot of “editing” done so that customers aren’t overwhelmed.  Vicky and her staff have truly done a fantastic job of choosing only the best items in each category – with the perfect mix of value and quality.  Some of my favourite picks include Tiny Toms shoes,Dimpleskins balms, made-in-Canada Monte Design Cubino loveseats and chairs (my daughter was given one of these as a baby and still has it; she’s six!), the versatile P’kolino Chalk Table, dual-use JJ Cole 2-in-1 Mirror/iPad holder and the oh-so-cute Ecojot Baby Books.

Whether you’re shopping for your own child or for a gift, you’re sure to find something fabulous at Little Lamb! And, if you don’t live in the Timmins area, you can still purchase many of these wonderful products on their website.  Be sure to follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook for upcoming events and promotions.
