One of my family’s favourite movies is Robots. In it, the lead character’s father bestows on him a very prudent piece of advice – “see a need, fill a need” – and this is exactly what Amy and Jason Habicht did back in 2006 when they openedHello Baby in their hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan.

Hello Baby

When preparing for the arrival of their first baby, they were frustrated by the lack of quality baby gear available in Regina. They would see amazing products online and in parenting magazines, but couldn’t find anywhere local that carried them. Especially important to Amy and Jason was a safe sleep surface for their son. They couldn’t find what they wanted locally, so they did some research and sourced a natural fibre mattress that was free of chemical flame-retardants. They realized that other parents were probably in the same boat – they wanted well-made, eco-friendly items but couldn’t see, feel and ‘test drive’ them in any local stores. In turn, Amy and Jason saw the need and filled it.

Hello Baby

Hello Baby is proud to be the only specialty store in the Regina area carrying high quality baby gear – strollers from Bugaboo, Baby Jogger and BOB; car seats from Britax and Peg Perego; Canadian-made furniture from Natart, Monte Design, and College Woodwork; and accessories from brands such as See Kai Run, Mimijumi, Boon and Skip Hop.

They also stock a wide range of gifts, toys & nursery decor items – all thoughtfully chosen for both form and function. I especially love the clean, modern picture frames from Pearhead (my favourite is the hospital ID bracelet frame) and the innovative mushroom humidifier/night light by Duux, both shown below.

Some of my other top picks include 3 Sprouts’ natural fiber storage bins featuring cute animals, KidCo freezer trays (for freezing homemade baby food) and feeding dish, Ergo baby carrier and the Cloud B Twilight Turtle / Ladybug (which my kids both have and LOVE).

Hello Baby carries a wonderful array of products but their friendly, knowledgeable staff is what keeps people coming back. They are proud to help new parents in their search for the perfect baby items, which is no small feat when you’re faced with a myriad of choices. And, according to the near-perfect store rating on their Facebook page – an impressive 4.9 out of 5 stars – it is obvious they are doing a great job!

Almost every single brand that Hello Baby carries has been tested with Amy and Jason’s children, so if they don’t think it’s a good product for their kids, they don’t carry it. And, just like that eco-friendly mattress that they sourced for their son way back in 2006, all the mattresses at Hello Baby are chemical flame-retardant free and the staff does its best to educate people about the importance of a non-toxic mattress.

Amy and Jason’s passion for products that are stylish and functional with an emphasis on safety and eco-consciousness really shines through in the lines they carry. If you’re lucky enough to live in Regina or the surrounding area, you can visit Hello Baby in person. If not, their online store is open 24/7 for your shopping pleasure! And, if there’s something you’re looking for that you don’t see online, call the store and one of their fabulous staff members will be happy to help. You can also check their Facebook page, which is updated regularly with new product arrivals, promotions and events.
