As a parent, there are many things you’ll worry about, but installing a car seat correctly shouldn’t be one of them. At least, that’s what this month’s featured boutique thinks.
Go As You Grow Kids’ Gear in New Minas is the first baby store in Nova Scotia to offer, at no charge, a Certified Car Seat Technician on staff to help with car seat installations. Car seat safety is extremely important, and with 85% of car seats in Canada installed incorrectly, Go As You Grow feels strongly that they should be a resource for parents who will be using the products they sell. They also know that many lower-income families cannot afford to pay the $60+ that other stores may charge, so their policy is that anyone can pull up to their store anytime with any car seat and they are happy to help with their installation – no purchase required! (How fab is that?!) They also welcome parents to come and use their nursing room and Dad-friendly changing station anytime they need them.
But you’d be mistaken if you think they’re just a car seat store, so let me fill you in on the rest of their fabulousness!
First off, I love their emphasis on promoting locally made items. They welcome Mom entrepreneurs to sell their homemade products at the store and often build lasting relationships with them. One such company makes the Baltic Amber teething necklaces that Go As You Grow carries. These trend-setting necklaces, which are meant to help relieve a child’s teething pains, are usually about 13 inches. They felt that this length was much too long for children under the age of 7 or 8 so they were the first store to have custom length necklaces made for them. (In case you’re wondering, they come in four sizes: xs 10.5”, sm 11”, md 12” and lg 13”.)
They also carry a wide selection of natural and eco-friendly items, as well as a wide selection of baby carriers, maternity and nursing wear, toys, feeding items, nursery décor, strollers and so much more!
Some of my favourite picks are the Baby Bistro Box / Toddler Bistro Box (recipes and feeding advice); Kaboost portable chair booster; All-natural, Canadian-made Anointment skin products; Funky Fluff bamboo diapers (super-cute colours and prints); Cantaloop pregnancy panties for extra belly support; and Fun Cone ice cream & popsicle holders, which are perfect for the summer.
They also stock a wide range of children’s footwear. In fact, staff have been trained by a local podiatrist to properly measure and fit children’s feet for shoes. And considering that the leading cause of head injuries in early and pre-walkers is inappropriate fitting or developmentally inappropriate staged footwear, Go As You Grow has made a point of carrying the largest selection of early and pre-walker footwear in Atlantic Canada, with shoes starting at size 2.5.
It’s the amazing service and commitment to their community that makes Go As You Grow an invaluable resource to local parents – and their wonderful selection of gear keeps Moms and Dads coming back.
If you’re in the New Minas area, please take a moment to check out this wonderful store (tell ‘em Fab Frugal Mama sent you!). If not, visit their website, where you can order many of their fab items and have them delivered to your door!
