I’ll admit, having two boys four and a half years apart can be a challenge sometimes.
As the holidays approach, my husband and I keep trying to think of fun Christmas activities to do as a family.
“Let’s go to the Calvacade of Lights!” we’ve said only to turn back to each other and say “Will would be miserable at that time of night, out in the cold, and with all those people.”
“Let’s go see the CP Holiday Train when it comes to town!” we say, but then we realize it’s another nighttime event and Will’s temperament goes into a freak-out mode then.
“Lets go see a musical in the city!” Matilda the Musical is currently on in Toronto. But, again, Will’s not ready to sit still and watch a play long enough without belting out one of his now-notorious screams.
While we’d love to do all of the above, we would need to find a babysitter for each. Instead, we’ll get creative and find activities that both boys will enjoy, so Will can be a part of our family fun!
Santa Claus parades are always a good bet! We went last year, and both boys enjoyed watching the characters, bands and, of course, Santa passes by. We also look forward to taking the kids to see Santa at the mall! Hopefully, that experience won’t be like Will’s recent haircut experience.
There will be a lot to do in our community to celebrate Christmas. Some things will be more appropriate for Benjamin, but we’ll keep on the lookout for events and activities we can include both the boys in.
Do you have any suggestions? I’d love to gather some more ideas!
