In the heart of Montreal lies a gem, where only the coolest, most functional kids’ gear and apparel are sold. If you live in the area, you probably know of it, but if not, you will find out today!
Faon is a children’s boutique that has been in business since 2008. It’s chock full of local brands like Petit Lem and Krickets, Canadian brands like Hatley and SoYoung, as well as the cutest lines from around the world, including Boboli,Tuc Tuc, Nanö (very cool girls wear – a favourite of mine), 3 sprouts and Salt Water Sandals, a line of supportive, sturdy all-leather sandals for kids.
Faon owners, Amy and Philippe, stock the store with only the most unique pieces from each line, so you know when you visit their store, you’re going to see items that not every retailer carries. It’s clear when you walk in the store that style is in abundance, from the clean, modern interior to the well-curated displays of children’s clothing and gear. One of Amy’s favourites is Electrik Kidz, a locally designed and manufactured line of organic kid’s clothes and accessories, which is beloved by their clients. Like almost every line of kidswear out there, it was started by a young couple who had a child but could not find what they wanted in the marketplace. And, while Amy loves all of the Electrik Kiidz line, she mainly stocks their bibs and pacifier clips. She especially loves what Electrik Kidz is doing in her community. A program they call “Petite main, gros bedon” reaches out to pregnant and new Moms in the area and gives them the opportunity to work at their atelier in exchange for store credit. They learn about a local business while socializing/exchanging with other Moms on maternity leave. (How cool is that?)
Amy, a self-described social butterfly, is the heart of the store. She loves interacting with her customers and taking the time to understand their needs. In this day and age of big box retailers, this personable, welcoming attention is what brings people back. That, and the super-cool playhouse that Amy is convinced all the kids from the neighborhood are going to reminisce about when they are in high school. Sometimes that house is a bit too popular, she says, which makes leaving a bit tricky for Mom or Dad!
If you don’t live in Montreal or the surrounding area and you’d like to check out Faon, you can now shop from the comfort of your home. They recently expanded their website to offer online shopping and it has afforded them the opportunity to carry more inventory, including a wider range of sizes. Traditionally, they’ve stocked sizes newborn to 7 years, but at the urging of their clients, they carry girls’ wear up to size 12 starting in the fall – perfect for outfitting tweens for back-to-school! And, if you’re local and would like to streamline your shopping, you can print out your online shopping cart or email your wishlist to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will set aside your selections in advance. This comes in handy if you’ve got kids with definitive opinions about what they want to wear and what they absolutely will not wear! Previewing the collection online can make shopping in person a breeze.
