As the saying goes, the best ideas are born out of necessity. When Stephanie Le Vaguerèze became a mother she saw the need in her local marketplace for quality baby and maternity goods, so she decided to make a change. She left her career in communications and embarked on a new adventure, with the goal to reconcile both work and family life, and to offer hard-to-find, specialized products – with a focus on locally made items – to her small community of Vaudreuil-Solanges. Within months of the arrival of her second child, her third “baby” – Bedon & Fripon – was born.

When I first stumbled upon the Bedon & Fripons website, I was blown away by the selection of Mom and baby goods. They offer everything from cloth diapers, baby carriers, breastfeeding clothes and accessories to organic skincare products and trendy, practical and eco-friendly products, with an emphasis on local products made by environmentally conscious companies. Their locally made lineup includes adorable blankets and stroller sacks by Bébé Carrousel, cloth diapers by Mini Kiwi, cute scarves and bandanas by Glup Bebe, and all-natural baby care products by Pissenlit et Coccinelle. They also carry hard to find lines such as the bblala clothing collection, Sock Ons, Dapper Snapper, My Little Seat and Gro Clock.

Offering a great product lineup is one thing, but Bedon & Fripons goes above-and-beyond by offering valuable services like breast pump, baby carrier and cloth diaper rentals. Imagine the money you can save if you’re able to try out these big-ticket items before you buy them! And, if you want to know how to use them properly, they host free information sessions on a regular basis. (They’ve thought of everything!) Other workshops on baby massage and topics relating to motherhood and babies are held throughout the year and, for nursing mothers, a walk-in breastfeeding clinic is available free of charge every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. It’s clear that Bedon & Fripons is much more than just a store – it’s a true community resource. And, it doesn’t end there…

In addition to promoting eco-friendly solutions to their customers, they believe it’s important to make environmentally-friendly choices as a business by using LED lighting and reusable bags, refilling laundry detergent bottles, buying locally and recycling. They also accept cloth diaper donations, in collaboration with the international cooperation organization Casira, which then distributes them to youth centers in Guatemala. It’s an innovative way to help those in need while being considerate to the earth.

At Bedon & Fripons, it is not uncommon to see a baby at work with her Mom, or a customer sitting comfortably in a chair, breastfeeding, while chatting with an employee. The store is really all about family… it was started from a love of family, and its mission is to help its customers nurture their own families.

If you’re not in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges area, you can visit Bedon & Fripons online to purchase all of the drool-worthy items I mentioned. And, you can do it guilt-free because they offer free shipping on orders over $25! Happy shopping!
