This is just one of a multitude of popular signing programs currently going on around the city. There is much debate in the mommy community over the actual benefits. But the idea — that babies can communicate with sign language long before they can learn to talk, thus cutting down on yelps of frustration — is very intriguing. Instructor Elyza Polsky of Sign With Me offers classes, workshops and presentations around the GTA, and will even meet with mommy groups in your home. Anna Gold says her baby, Eliora, learned to make the signs for milk and cookies (well, sort of). “She can approximately sign. She knows what the signs mean and I think it is an amazing way for babies to be able to show what they want. It’s really lovely.”
