If you’ve ever thought about cloth-diapering your baby, you know that there is a lot of information out there, and to be honest, it can be a bit intimidating. There are so many styles of diapers and various fabrications that it can make your head spin. When I had my first child, I thought about trying cloth, but didn’t feel I could make it work. After the birth of my second child, I felt brave enough to take the plunge… so I did some research online and I came across an awesome brand of diapers called AMP (short for Annie Marie Padorie). What I loved about these diapers was not only that they were cute and high quality, but they were made in Canada!!
The AMP Diaper Store in Winnipeg, Manitoba is an extension of that wonderful line of Canadian-made diapers. It’s where Annie (a mother of five!), along with her fantastic staff, assists customers by giving practical advice and helping them figure out what their needs are, what diaper styles will work for them and guides them on their cloth-diapering journeys… something she would have benefitted from when she was a new Mom.
The impetus for her line of diapers came almost 10 years ago, when Annie wasn’t having great success with the cloth diapers she was using. Out of those frustrations, and the determination to have a smaller eco footprint, AMP diapers were created. Annie wanted to make cloth diapering easy to use for everyone. They were first sold on Ebay and now, almost 10 years later, they are sold at retailers across North America.
While the AMP Diaper Store is first and foremost a cloth diapering mecca – offering every style of diaper imaginable (incolours of the rainbow and limited-edition prints), flushable diaper liners, training pants and swim diapers – that’s not all they carry! The store has evolved to offer a well-edited collection of baby carriers, nursing products, children’s accessories, mealtime items (such as the adorable and locally-made Sling Sisters snack bags), gifts, and all-natural skincare products (notably the Anointment and Dimpleskins brands), with new inventory being added monthly. They also carry Allens Naturally and Country Save, which are both cloth diaper-friendly / earth-friendly laundry detergents. Since these brands can be hard-to-find, they make it a point to stock them for their customers. In fact, AMP Diapers is the exclusive Canadian distributor of Allens Naturally, which they feel is the best green detergent for cloth diapers.
The AMP Diaper Store definitely offers a fantastic array of products, but what makes it special is its importance in the community. AMP Diapers has a lot to be proud of as far as community involvement and betterment is concerned. Every AMP diaper is made locally in their own factory, where their employees make a fair wage and work in comfortable and safe working conditions. Not only do they employ their fellow neighbours, but they put an emphasis on eco-friendly business practices too. Since 2008, they have been certified as a GreenOffice Member, demonstrating wise use of energy, taking part in waste reduction/recycling and more. And, of course, you’ll find Annie or one of her fantastic staff offering up a wealth of information to make their customers feel empowered to make a change that will help our environment for generations to come.
Whether you’re a cloth-diapering newbie or a seasoned pro, AMP Diapers has something for you! And, if you don’t live in Winnipeg, don’t fret – you can always shop their fabulous website.
