Have you ever noticed that kids love gross stuff? The ooey-er, gooey-er and slimier the better! Whenever we are at the toy store my kids always zero in on the slime. Mama’s not spending money on something that we can easily make at home, so homemade slime it is!
With summer here I’m always on the lookout for fun activities that will keep my kids busy. I love finding projects that I can start with my kids, that will keep them occupied after I’m done crafting with them. Enter my Snap, Crackle, Pop Rainbow Glitter Slime!
This is a fun project that you can create with your kids, then stick in ziplock bags in the fridge to last all summer long. The FloraCraft Slime Ballz give it a fun texture and because they add air pockets to the slime as you stretch and squeeze the goo it snaps, crackles and pops as air pockets burst.
I love making this project in a variety of colours and adding some glitter to make it extra pretty.
You can also turn this DIY project into a fun science experiment! Let your kids hypothesis about what will happen to the glue when you add the Borax mixture.
Ready to make Snap, Crack, Pop Rainbow Glitter Slime? Let’s get started!
How To Make Snap, Crack, Pop Rainbow Glitter Slime
- 2 tablespoons of Borax
- ¾ cups (6 oz) of Elmer’s School Glue (You’ll want to splurge on the name brand glue for this project, you won’t have as much success with other white glue)
- ¾ cups of warm water + ½ cup of warm water
- 3 tablespoons of glitter
- Food colouring
- 1 cup of FloraCraft Slime Ballz
- 3 Ziploc bags
- Bowls and measuring cups
Step 1: In a bowl combine 2 tablespoons of Borax with ¾ cup of warm water. Stir until borax has dissolved. Set aside.
Step 2: In a second bowl, combine ¾ cup (6 oz) of Elmer’s School Glue and ½ cup of warm water. Stir until water and glue are combined. Set aside.
Step 3: Put ⅓ cup of FloraCraft Slime Ballz, 1 tablespoon of glitter and 6 drops of food colouring into each of your 3 Ziploc bags. Shake to combine. (If you want to make your slime all one colour, you can do this in 1 Ziploc bag.)
Step 4: Divide your glue and water mixture among the three bags (this will equal approximately ⅓ cup plus 1 tablespoon). Shake to combine.
Step 5: One bag at a time, add ¼ cup of Borax/water mixture to the bag. Seal and then shake and mush with your hands until all the ingredients are combined and your mixture starts to solidify. You might have some extra liquid around your slime. Pour away the extra mixture, flop your slime onto a plate and knead with dry hands. Add extra Borax if you desire a thicker consistency. Once your kids are done playing with their slime, place each colour in a Ziploc bag, seal and store in the fridge.
I hope that this Snap, Crack, Pop Rainbow Glitter Slime brings your kids hours of entertainment this summer!
